The girls volleyball team defeated Highland Park and Mother Seton to advance in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament by a score of 2-0 in each game. October 23, the Knights faced rival East Brunswick in the GMC semifinals, leaving them with a 2-0 defeat. They have now turned their focus to the Quarterfinal Round of the State tournament against Bridgewater-Raritan on November 3

Sophomore Julia Mikucki secured 15 assists during the match against Highland Park. Mikucki revealed, ‘’I feel that my toughness plays a big role in each game. When being a setter, you are in charge of the game. You control each play by setting your strongest, and smartest hitter that you can trust.” Mikucki added, ‘’Against Highland Park, I just did my best to set those that were getting those kills.’’

The Knights have gained many accomplishments during this season, including having two players selected as GMC Players of the Week. Junior Malvina Sullivan, who was named GMC Player of the Week on September 29, stated, ‘’It feels amazing to be named GMC player of the week. Even Coach Hopman was ecstatic and told the team how long it has been since a female volleyball player has been awarded that achievement.’’

Sophomore Leena Tran also earned GMC Player of the Week on October 13. Tran shared, ‘’Being selected as the Greater Middlesex Conference Player of the Week feels incredible, I am so grateful to be recognized as an outstanding player from all the female volleyball players in the GMC Conference.’ Tran gained 13 kills against rival Monroe and 16 digs against J.P. Stevens this season.

As the volleyball season continues, the team’s goal is to dominate their rivals as they are heading to the NJSIAA Tournament. Sullivan added, ‘’I am so proud to represent my school and my team in the Greater Middlesex Conference and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us.”
