On December 10, the OBHS choir kicked off the holiday season with the gift of song at their annual winter concert.

This event was the first time since 2019 that the full choir performed together. “It felt like it had been more than 2 years. I was also so happy for the choir members to finally get the opportunity to perform again,” commented choir teacher, Mr. Updegraff.

The choir performed an array of holiday songs like “Sleigh Ride” and “Gift of Light” and special tributes. Choir member Neha Shanker shared, “My favorite song is ‘Into the West’,” which was sung as a tribute to choir alumni who passed away.

The performers consisted of students in the elective and the after-school club. They met collectively every Thursday after school until 3:45. “The club is always a fun time and makes me want to take the class next year,” explained Eva Roman.

Jaya Singh performs her solo in “Kings and Queens.”

This concert was many students’ first performance experience. Gianna Blamer, said, “My first high school choir experience was great, I really loved it. It made me feel happy and allowed me to do what I love and have a huge passion for.”

On the other hand, this is one of the few performances left for some students. Senior Jaya Singh said, “It was an emotional moment for our choir as a whole, as we were all excited and nervous. The sense of community before we went out on stage was the strongest it has ever been and I have never been more proud to call myself a member of the OBHS Choir.”
