On October 14, the junior varsity field hockey team won the JV Middlesex County Tournament title with wins over South Plainfield and Monroe in a one-day tournament at South Plainfield.
An outstanding 7-2 record in the regular season gave the girls confidence heading into the county tournament. “We wanted to end an amazing season well and go into the game ready to play,” stated freshman Olivia Klink.
The freshman-heavy team had a singular focus, knowing they were one step away from gold. “Our mindset was one thing and one thing only, to win. We knew we had to play hard and work together,” said freshman Kate Hazel.
Sophomore Angelina Reynoso got the team rolling with the sole goal in the first game against South Plainfield. “My mindset was to play hard and do the best I could to help the team win and move onto the finals,” Reynoso explained. The 1-0 win led the girls to the final round facing Monroe.

The rain picked up as the championship game began, creating difficult playing conditions for both teams, but that did not stop freshman Reagan Connolly as she picked up the first goal to give the Knights an early lead. “It felt amazing in general to score,” announced Connolly. “It is a feeling of achievement.”
Instead of leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats through the whole game like they did in the first one, freshman Olivia Klink gave the team some breathing room when she scored to increase the lead to 2-0. “It was so exciting for me to contribute with the second goal in that game,” said Olivia Klink. “To seal the lead with the final goal was such an incredible feeling!”

The Knights finished an impressive day, winning two games to seal the title. “We were so relieved and proud of ourselves; we knew that we worked hard for the win and deserved it as a whole,” said Hazel. “Once that whistle blow excitement just exploded throughout everyone one.”
