With the bowling season around the corner, the boys and girls teams expect another great year. Coming off a dominant 14-1-1 season as first-time GMC Champions, the girls seek to repeat history. The boys finished 7-10 but aim to surpass .500 this season.

The team lost no girls to graduation, setting the stage for the upcoming season with returning top bowlers Savannah Gomez, Madison Freudenberg, Savanah Funk, and Madeline Hickel. “I’m excited about the upcoming season as well as ready to grow and get better individually and as a team,” said Gomez, who led the team in set points with 8,991 total last season.

After making history, the girls hope to repeat as GMC Champions and make a run in the State Tournament. “I’m hoping to do as good as we did last year,” said sophomore Savanah Funk, who finished second on the team last season in total set points (6,686).

On the boy’s side, a handful of top bowlers from last year graduated, but the current seniors and underclassmen look to build the team back up. “It’s going to be tough losing a lot of seniors, but with myself and new kids coming in, we should be fine,” explained senior Zachary Wilson.

Senior Savannah Gomez, who was the top bowler last season with a high game of 257, releases the ball down the lane.

With little experience on the team, underclassmen including Noah Kang and Gabriel Todaro need to step up. “It’s going to be a little more challenging, but it will be much greater to be in the season for the second time,” shared sophomore Kang.

Wilson, who bowled a team high of 288 last season, expressed his eagerness for the season to get rolling. “I’m excited to start practicing, and working as a team,” said Wilson.

While the girls won the GMC Tournament last season, East Brunswick knocked the boys out of the tournament, but they will seek a better outcome when both squads open their season on the road against the Bears on December 1 at 4pm.
