Coming off a disappointing 11-16 season, the softball team expects a more successful season. With a lineup stacked with veterans and improved experience at pitcher, the team hopes to put it all together.
The team returns seven seniors with varsity experience. “All the girls are amazing teammates, and we all get along well together,” said senior Zoe Milonopoulos who had 19 runs, 29 hits, and 17 RBIs last spring. “I couldn’t imagine a better team to play with!”
The players responsible for 94% of the hits on last year’s team will take the field again this season with a few new players added to the mix. “We lost two players and gained two,” said junior Amanda Jupinka, who hit two home runs last year. “I think everyone worked really hard during the offseason, so there’s lots of improvement.”
Returning senior catcher Dimitra Milonopoulos, who had 23 runs, 41 hits, and 10 RBIs, cannot wait to start playing again. “I am so excited! The atmosphere, the teamwork, and seeing everyone come together to show-off their talent on and off the field is truly amazing!”
“We have an amazing Team that is full of hard workers, dedication and determination, so I am expecting a fun and competitive season,” shared Gianna Lombardi, who took over the starting pitcher role as a freshman last year. Lombardi improved significantly throughout the season, starting with a 5.84 ERA in her first ten starts, but improving to just a 3.09 ERA in her last 10.

With improved, experienced pitching, the team can take advantage of a powerful offense. “With the consistent practices we have during the season, it keeps me super sharp, which helps me stay successful,” said Jupinka, who led the team with 22 RBIs last season.
Returning more experienced players with strong relationships will help the team improve. “The chemistry we had on the field last year will only make us stronger this one,” shared Lombardi, who struck out 44 batter’s last spring.
The sibling coaching duo of Angela and Joseph D’Amico head the softball program. “OB and both my coaches, Coach D’Amico, have changed my life for the better. They helped me find my love for the game again,” said Dimitra Milonopoulos, who led the team with 34 doubles last year. “I am so excited and looking forward to our upcoming season together.”

For the seven seniors on the team, this season provides one last chance to put it all together and have their best season yet. “It is all so surreal. I am so proud to have had the opportunity to play with the girls,” shared Zoe Milonopoulos, who led the team with 3 home runs last year.
The softball team plays its first game on April 2 against Sayreville at 4pm at Mannino Park. Come out to support them!
