In a thrilling display of teamwork and talent, the girls bowling team won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 Championship in addition to multiple in-season tournaments. The boys, who started as underdogs, made a run to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 Finals.

The girls team showcased their prowess throughout the season. They went 9-0 to sweep the Red Division, earning first place in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 Tournament, and finished second in the NJSIAA Group 4 Tournament. “We’ve progressed as a team in the last year, and I couldn’t be happier!” said senior Alyssa Woodburn.

The girls, who finished with 20 wins, only lost against Woodbridge in the GMC Tournament Finals and to an undefeated Howell team in the NJSIAA Group 4 Finals. “The season was great,” said senior Gianna Blamer, who rolled a high game of 226 against East Brunswick. “We got a lot of wins.”

Savannah Gomez capped off an impressive four-year varsity career by qualifying for the individual State Tournament yet again. “I’m really excited to have qualified for states,” said Gomez, the captain of the team.

Senior captain Savannah Gomez, who achieved a high score of 244 this season, follows through after sending her ball down the lane.

For the many seniors on the team, this season ends a remarkable two-year run, where they went 34-2-1 and won many accolades and trophies. “Spending that final season with my teammates was very heartwarming, and it’s sad to think that it’s all over already,” said Blamer.

After starting the season 0-4 and finishing the regular season 6-9, the boys team played their best when it counted most. “Throughout the season we did alright, but when the State sections came, we bowled very well, and it gave us motivation,” said freshman Mason Sorrentino, who helped the team beat South Brunswick with a high game of 215.

The boys entered the State tournament as the six seed, but they made it to the finals by knocking off JP Stevens, the three seed, South Brunswick, and the two seed, Bridgewater-Raritan behind the outstanding play of junior Justin Frudden and senior Zachary Wilson. “When we started States, we all, as a team, did amazing,” said Sorrentino. “We were so close to winning our section, and it was a lot of fun working our way up.” In the Finals, the team fell just short, losing to the number one seed, North Brunswick, 2-1.

Although the team will lose Wilson, who bowled at career-high 290 game this year, the rest of the team’s top contributors will return next year determined to build on this season’s success.
