The boys tennis team ended their season with an overall record of 5-9, while paying in the tough GMC Red Division. The boys recorded dominant out-of-conference victories over Colonia, North Brunswick, and Sayreville.
The team’s confidence and camaraderie led to their success this year. “We have been constantly trying to uplift each other and make sure nobody gets down or in their head,” said senior captain, Vasanth Kumaravadivelu.
Third singles, Devyn Schroeder, and first doubles, Vasanth Kumaravadivelu and Mahin Patel all reached the quarterfinals of the GMC Tournament. “Reaching quarterfinals was truly an amazing thing for me because it was the first time in three years that I had ever gotten to that position. When I was playing my match, all I could think about was that if I didn’t lock in at that point, we would all be sent back home,” said Patel. “It’s probably the greatest thing that happened this season because of the amount of teamwork Vasanth and I used to win the match.”
Sophomore Elijah Cabalan kicked off this season playing first singles, and he earned wins against Colonia and Sayreville. “It feels good that my hard work payed off because I learned to be calm even when going against tough opponents or down by many points,” said Cabalan.

Ved Patel, a sophomore, made varsity this year playing second doubles. He and his partner Tristan Vendel had an overall record of 3-4. “[Varsity] has been a lot, but after every game I’m learning something new, which helps me improve my game,” said Patel.
On April 29, the boy’s tennis team celebrated the three seniors. They won their match against Colonia 4-1, including dominant wins from the first doubles and second singles. The boys then celebrated their seniors with a ball they all signed their names on. “I love my team; I can’t thank them enough for organizing our senior night and making our season one of the best yet. It’s always great seeing our team win, and this was no different, especially with a win of 4-1,” said senior Corey Wong.
