From Tuesday April 30 to Wednesday May 1, the girls and boys track and field teams competed at the Greater Middlesex Conference Relays. The boys finished third overall and the girls took fifth.
The discus relay team arrived at the meet prepared to win, achieved a new personal record, and finished in first place. “Competing in the discus relay felt like a second chance after the results we’ve received at past meets,” said Zaraa Aminu who competes in the event with Tetiana Kontsohrada and Maliha Nuredinoska. “Because of that second chance, my teammates and I were able to do our parts, and we placed 1st overall!”
Nicholas Mackoul, Muhammad Ziyad, Stephen Davies, and Peter Afoakwah, ended their 4×200 meter relay placing second overall. “It felt good, but we messed up a handoff, which might’ve costed us first, so that didn’t feel too good,” shared Mackoul.
Rebecca Bogy, Marilyn Togun, and Reahna Hinds excelled in the triple jump relay. “I was more excited to do that event cause it’s my specialty, and I came in 2nd individually,” said Bogy, who marked 16-3.75 during the long jump relay, helping her relay team finish second.

The boys pulled through in the 4×1600, placing third overall, but feel they could have done even better. “I was a second off my pr, and I felt like my pacing should’ve been better because it was good weather to run a pr, and I ran the 2nd and 3rd lap slow,” shared distance runner Ronald Ciaccia, who ran the event with Joshua Santiago, Jason Kasoff and Sean Doran.
Despite not making top three, Aminu who threw 28-11.25 in the shot-put relay, made sure to still show her spirit. “Competing in the relay was a tough one. We didn’t do what we had hoped to, but we placed 4th and still medaled,” said Aminu. “We’re very grateful that we placed within the top 6!”

Kelvin Molina, Santiago, Randall Browne, and Rohan Siddique, ran in the Distance Meter Relay, placing fourth. “The feeling of adrenaline that I got getting set was great, also being my best race of the season, splitting a 10.5, was an achievement to me as well,” said Molina.
Ryleigh Lynch, Alyssa Penn, Ahrabella Pagano, and Stella Melnikov, placed fifth overall in the shuttle hurdles. “I really enjoyed working with my team and attacking the hurdles,” said Lynch. “I’m so proud of my teammates and how far we have come as a shuttle team.”
Both teams placed in the top six in multiple other events to score points for the teams. With the Relays behind them, the athletes will look to finish the rest of the season strong.
