On Tuesday, January 8, the boys basketball team made history, beating St. Joseph for the first time since 2019 by a score of 71-52. Senior Krish Patel lead the team with 24 total points.

Patel had a successful game against the St. Joseph Falcons, scoring his 1000th career point. “Hitting 1000 points was very special to me,” shared Patel. “It has been my dream since I stepped into high school, and hitting it at home in front of my family and friends made it 100 times better.”

The win over the Falcons served as a high point for the entire team. “Beating a team we haven’t beat in five years made it a special night, and being a part of Krish scoring 1000 points,” shared senior Noah Balbuena, who scored 17 points in the St. Joesph game.

Sophomore Victor Przepiora, who scored 11 points during the St. Joseph’s game, defends the low post.

The boys had their second highest scoring game of the season against St. Joseph’s. “It was one of the first games of the season where everything clicked, and we played well together as a team,” shared sophomore Victor Przepiora.

On Thursday January 23, the boys have their next game against St. Joseph and will look to repeat their success ready for another win. “St. Joe’s is a pretty tough team, but if we are able to come out with the same energy that we did the first matchup, we will be able to be win that game,” shared Patel.

Senior Noah Balbuena who scored 17 points in the win over St. Joseph’s game dribbles to the top of the key.

With a current record of 5-8, the boys have faced some tough completion with a slightly more favorable schedule down the stretch. “Going into the playoffs we look forward to getting some big wins against good teams to bring the momentum into the playoffs,” said Patel.

Since last year’s GMCs didn’t go as planned, the boys hope to make sure to prepare enough to bring home a win this year. “I’m excited and hope that we can win the whole thing for the first time,” shared senior Brandon Medel, who has scored 114 points so far this season.

Senior Krish Patel who now has 1,027 total career points, takes a break.

Come out today and show your support as they play Monroe at 5:30. Don’t forget to wish them luck as they prepare for their upcoming game against St. Joseph on Thursday.
