The Esports team made it to the State Championships during the fall season and two players managed to reach GSE All-Stars. Multiple classes contribute to the team’s success in various ways, such as social media.

In the fall season, the Rocket League and Super Smash Bros teams reached a major goal by making it to the State Championships. “Just being at the event was breath taking, seeing all the other schools coming together in one room going head-to-head in the finals,” said Kyle Chamra. “It was a great experience overall, and it was a lot of fun.”

Julissa Reyes, a member of the Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros teams, managed to reach GSE All-Stars for StreetFighter6, a title only a few players get each season. “Despite having an idea that I had high chances for All-Stars, it’s still impressive to be awarded,” announced Reyes. Senior Nathan Chumash also qualified as a GSE All-Star for League of Legends.

Recently, the team beat Morris Hills High School, 3-2. The team captain, Reyes, contributed tremendously to the game. “Reylin usually decides an order before the round begins, and the team was able to take the win with her help,” said Corinne Liamero.

The Street Fighter team won three out of their eight matches and continued to work together. “Our teammates improved with communication and thinking when under pressure,” noted Reyes. “We are happy with what we accomplished.”

James Cooper, Frank Lorence, and their teammates practice their gaming skills in the Esports class.

The players refine their skills through practicing and preparation. “We watch old and current videos my coach might’ve saved, and we look back to see their game style and learn how to counter,” remarked Reyes.

The program consists of many groups that contribute to the team’s success. The content team produces content for the team, ranging from social media to commentating on streams. “We make flyers, create Instagram posts and make promotional videos,” said Abigail Gorzynski.

Esports brings people together through social aspects and shared interests and creates opportunities to connect with individuals from unique backgrounds. “Being on a team helps you build strong friendships,” said Dylan Karlan. “You share goals, face challenges, and celebrate wins together.”
