Junior Zach Florio, junior Sofia Sousa, and sophomore Gavin Young all qualified for and participated in the NJSIAA State Wrestling Tournament in Atlantic City on March 6 through 8.
The Old Bridge wrestling team has proven itself full of tough competitors, illustrated by sending three athletes to represent Old Bridge at the highest level. “It’s awesome that there’s multiple kids down there representing our township and our program,” said Zach Florio.
“[Sousa and Young] are both incredible wrestlers with a lot to prove and also incredible leaders in the practice room, so they absolutely deserve and have earned the opportunity to go and be great,” said Florio. Florio finished his season with a 26-6 record, among the top 24 in the State and he still has a year left to make the podium in Atlantic City.

Sousa finished in the top eight placements in the State after a great season. “The journey to qualifying for States was not easy,” said Sousa. “It’s taken a lot of hard work to achieve this.”
Young finished a great sophomore season with a record of 34-7 and placed among the top 24 in the state. “Since I qualified as a sophomore, I knew I had nothing to lose, so I went out and wrestled the way I have been wrestling this whole season,” said Young

The future looks bright for old Bridge wrestling, “All 3 of us are returning next year so I also think this is an incredible learning experience that we can use for next year as well,” stated Florio.
