The boys tennis team stands ready to dominate the courts after ending last season 5-9. With a few new players added to many returning athletes, the boys have prepared to take over this season.
Seven impact players from last season return to the courts for the team this year “Multiple players have trained over the off-season and became way better,” said Tristain Vendel, who earned three doubles wins last year and won his only singles match.
During the offseason, the players have trained vigorously. “I have been practicing all year-round including summer at Brunswick Hills Tennis Center every week,” said junior Elljah Cabalan, who played first singles last year.
The team only lost one starter from last year to graduation, so they return an experienced squad. “We have gotten new players like some freshman and a lot of players from last year have improved,” said junior Ved Patel, who earned four wins playing second doubles last year.

Underclassmen and incoming players have the possibilities of creating change for the season. “There are several freshmen and new players who have the potential to make an impact on the team,” said Cabalan, who earned wins against Sayreville, North Brunswick, and St. John Vianney last season.
Players have set their own personal goals for the season. “[My goals are] to achieve first singles again, to win more matches this season, and to do better this season than previous seasons,” said Cabalan.

As the players trained, they prepared for whatever the season has in store for them. “My expectation for the season is to be successful and have everyone contribute positively on the team,” said Vendel.
The team’s first match will take place on March 25 at Matawan. With many talented new players, the boys have a chance to establish a good start to the season.
