After losing several significant senior players last year, the Knights come back ready to jump into the season with a new perspective. With a mix of veteran players and several new additions to the team, the team has high hopes for what this season will hold.

Returning players have dedicated time and effort during their spare time to prepare for this season. “My team and I have been working throughout the off season, putting in the work for this upcoming season, and we are ready for what is to come and to make a good run this season,” said senior Gianna Velez who contributed 9 runs, 14 hits, and 13 RBIs last season.

With all the dedication the girls have put towards practicing, they expect many good things for this season’s outcome. “I’ve been practicing a lot with the team and outside of the team,” said senior Amanda Jupinka, the team’s returning hits leader.

The girls have had to adapt after losing many key players including their catcher, shortstop, and center fielder. The team will count on the pitching staff, which proved itself last year. “With losing seven seniors it is definitely different, but I feel the team is coming along great and we have amazing chemistry on and off the field,” said Gianna Lombardi, who surrendered just 35 runs across 147 innings. “I feel we will accomplish great things this season.”

Pitcher Gianna Lombardi winds up to throw a strike at the first round of the NJSIAA Tournament last season, where she did not allow a single run across seven innings.

Players look to spark excitement with new players, positions, and strategies. “I am most looking forward to playing a new position and ending my last season with my best friends,” said senior Katie Gallo who had 5 runs, 10 hits, and 5 RBIs last season.

After ending last season with an outstanding 21-6 record, the girls have many accomplishments to repeat and ways to make this season just as memorable. “I think the team’s best qualities are our energy, even if someone makes a mistake the team knows how to pick each other up and come back stronger,” said junior Danielle Flores.

Amanda Jupinka, who contributed 12 runs and 20 RBIs last season while hitting .384, prepares to field the ball at first base.

The team includes five seniors, creating a sentimental feeling regarding their final season. “I feel like it is a bittersweet feeling knowing this is the last time taking the field and definitely sad to think about,” said Gallo.

The girls have their first game on April 1 against Metuchen. The game will start at 4:00 at Manino Park and mark the kickoff to their promising season. Come out to support them!
