On February 9, the varsity cheer team competed at St. John Vianney and placed first with their Traditional routine. On February 22, the team competed in the final competition of the season, States at Brookdale, placing second in Traditional.
This season presented more difficulties than expected. “We’ve had a lot more obstacles and challenges this season than we’ve had in the past,” said senior Skyler Cronin. “We’re trying our best to work together and get through them.”
This dedication paid off with the team placing second in States for their Traditional routine, finishing off the season strong. “Our main goal was to be successful and ultimately win states,” shared Uveges. “Overall though we wanted to bond well as a team and have a great season.”

Before States, the team put in countless hours of hard work. “We are practicing as much as we can to be the best we can,” said junior Grace Cassiliano.
While they faced adversity, the girls stayed focused. “We’ve done alright and have definitely improved since the beginning of the season,” said sophomore Isabella Uveges.
The competition at St. John Vianney’s on February 9 proved to be a success, with Old Bridge placing first in traditional. “We didn’t go against anyone, so we got first place, but overall, we did well,” said Cassiliano.

The team had a different experience at this competition and had to adjust to complete their performance on a new type of flooring. “It was on a spring mat, which is different than our “dead” mat,” shared Cassiliano.
The girls made this a breakthrough season, facing challenges but overcoming the odds. “Although it was tough, we got through it together. We are prepared to come back stronger next season,” said Cassiliano.
