Over the summer, teens tuned in every Wednesday to watch the new episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty based on the novels by Jenny Han. The show, which focuses on a love triangle, has had viewers feeling the angst and emotions of the main characters.
Brothers Conrad and Jeremiah have a constant battle over who should be in a relationship with the main character, Belly. “I am team Jeremiah because he always makes sure that Belly is okay and is feeling loved,” said Jaclynn Fontana.
Almost everyone who watches the show picks a side and feels strongly about their decision. “I am team Conrad because he is more mature, and he doesn’t make ridiculous mistakes like Jeremiah has,” said Jaidan Wilbon.
Throughout the three seasons, fans loved many scenes. Whether they brought tears or made them gush over acts of love, these moments stayed engraved in fans’ minds. “I think my favorite moment was honestly all of episode five, but, more specifically, when Belly and Conrad were sitting at the dining table and just talking to each other,” said Elisa Qoku.
While the show nailed teenage romance and angsty fight scenes, something else stood out. The music used for the show added the perfect touch to any scene. “’Making the Bed’ by Olivia Rodrigo made so much sense for the scene where Belly was taking a late-night swim the night before her wedding,” said Fontana. “I love that song, and hearing it during such an important scene made me love the show even more.”
Gaining 25 million global viewers and having a 40% increase in popularity since season two, this show has affected many people. “I enjoy watching The Summer I Turned Pretty because the story line and the love triangle that is going on are interesting,” said Mariami Pantsulaia. “Some people may also find the show relatable, like losing someone close to you.”
Unfortunately, things cannot last forever and the season finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty comes out tomorrow. With the show coming to a close, viewers get to see what path Belly chooses. “I think Belly will end up with Conrad because she’s always had a place in her heart for him even if they weren’t together,” said Qoku. “To me he treats her a lot better and makes sure she’s okay.” Tune in Wednesday, September 17 to find out who Belly picks.
