The field hockey team currently holds a record of 6-0, dominating the Red Division as well as out-of-division opponents. The success has come in their second straight year playing in the more challenging division, moving up from the White Division.
The team features many seniors, including team captains Jamie Hazel, Kyra Vella, Addison Albrecht, and Laila Vaughan. “The team prepared for the season by running together over the summer and holding a few senior-led practices,” shared Albrecht.
The team started the season strong with a 4-0 shutout against Metuchen. “I think we got off to a hot start because of our hard work in preseason,” said sophomore Avery Baile, who has scored five goals this season.
The team continued with a 2-1 win against East Brunswick, their first victory over the competitive team since 2018. “That win wasn’t just about a single game; it was the result of years of perseverance, teamwork, and determination,” disclosed Albrecht.

Senior Adrienne Cabrera scored both goals against East Brunswick, including one in overtime. “It was a game we all have been looking forward to, and to finally have the outcome in our favor was an amazing feeling,” said Baile.
The team beat Monroe 7-1 on September 9 and dominated Piscataway in 3 quarters with an 8-0 victory on September 11. “Games with a higher goal differential are good for us because we get to work on our passing and simple skills a lot more, which is beneficial when it comes to our more difficult competition,” said Hazel.

In the game against Piscataway, Vaughan scored her 200th career goal, an unprecedented achievement in the program. “It feels very rewarding that all the hard work I’ve put in over the past four years has paid off,’ said Vaughan, who leads the team with 11 goals and six assists.
Senior Kaelyn Ritz quickly found success in her first year as starting goalie, with eight saves and only three goals against. “The keys to my success have been staying focused, trusting my training, and communicating with my defense,” said Ritz.
The team dedicated time to team building exercises and communication drills. “The team has been working extremely hard this year on team building. We even had an entire practice dedicated to improving teamwork and listening to each other,” said Vella. “As the season goes on, we look forward to becoming a better team by becoming better teammates.”

A 5-1 victory against Sayreville and a 7-0 win against North Plainfield further secured their perfect record. “Everyone has been working hard, staying committed, and supporting each other on and off the field,” said Ritz.
Tomorrow the team will face South Brunswick before their big rematch with South Plainfield on Saturday. The team lost to the rival team in the GMCs for the past two years, but the Knights remain hopeful their winning streak will continue. “We’re all expecting to go far this season,” said Hazel. “As we are on a high from our East Brunswick win, we plan to beat them this Saturday. We’ve worked hard on the basics like passing and a lot of team bonding to help us prepare for our biggest game yet.”
