The gymnastics team placed third overall in the GMC Championship with a total score of 102.175.  The season resulted in a multitude of personal highlights and a 4-4-1 record.

At the GMC Championship, freshman Mikayla Martins placed 1st on beam, as well as placing highest for Old Bridge in every other event. She placed fifth all around in the GMCs. “It was shocking and amazing, as a freshman to face that kind of competition and win,” said Martins, “Hearing my name called as GMC beam champ felt great and felt like a big win for my team. I couldn’t have done it without their support and the confidence they give me.”

Martins established herself as a standout this season. On average, she placed first all around and had consistently high scores.   “I think some of the season highlights would have to include any of the stuck landings and watching freshmen Mikayla and Cathrine Mercil place within the top three at the Raider Invitational,” said sophomore Alana Dunnah.

The girls’ success at the GMC Championship qualified the team for sectionals. “The rest of the team did great as well and had a season high score of 102.175,” said Catherine Mercil.

The Raider Invitational meet significantly challenged the team. “I’d say my favorite meet was the Raider Invitational because it included a lot of tough competition that I had to work really hard and stay focused,” said Martins. “Our team performed well and finished 4th.”

The team finished the season strong, with a wins against East Brunswick and South Brunswick and a tie with Cranford. “Winning against East Brunswick and South Brunswick put us in for Sectionals and it felt great,” said Catherine Mercil.
