The boys soccer season ended with a 14-6-2 record, including a 12-game undefeated streak lasting over a month. The boys made it to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV Semifinal game with many impressive wins along the way.

On November 7,the Knights won a tough quarterfinal game against Trenton, which concluded 2-0. Junior Nicholas Morella scored both goals. On November 11, the boys played their final game of the season, an unfortunate loss against Hunterdon Central in the State Semifinals. “[The tournament highlight was] getting to the semifinals, and making it as close of a game as it was, only losing in the final minutes of overtime,” said Krystian Kotlewski.

Earlier in the season, after defeating Wardlaw-Hartridge, Perth Amboy, Colonia, and Saint Thomas Aquinas in Group C pool play, the boys entered the GMC Tournament as the number three seed.  The Wardlaw- Hartridge game went into double overtime, and all of these games contributed to their long undefeated streak. “Not losing in 11 straight feels great,” explained Michael Deak during this streak. “It shows how hard we’ve been working and believing in each other.”

Senior Collin Chessere, who led the team with 12 goals, accelerates with the ball.

The boys hosted North Brunswick, a team they previously faced in the second week of the season, for the GMC quarterfinal round. The close game concluded with a 1-0 Old Bridge win with a goal from senior Lucas Dwornikowski in the second half. “It was a tough, hard-fought win in the first round of GMCs,” shared Justin Morrissey. “Win or go home, and we fought and won.”

On October 28, they traveled to Monroe for the semifinals. The boys played hard until the last second and took Monroe to overtime before losing 1-0. Morrissey, the goalie, had ten saves.

Their game against New Brunswick on September 18 began the undefeated streak. They won 4-0 with goals from Aidan Diaz, Collin Chessere, Teja Mareddy, and Nathan Reis. Freshman Brandon Ferrante assisted Chessere’s goal, achieving his first career stat. “It is very awesome to be getting so much playing time and experience on varsity with all the upperclassmen and is such a unique and different experience from any other soccer I have played,” explained Ferrante.

Junior Aadit Sawant sends a pass to his teammate.

On October 4, the Knights played the number one ranked team in the shore conference, Christian Brothers Academy. Sophomore Joshua Marquez scored for Old Bridge with ten minutes left, bringing the game to overtime. The game concluded in a 3-3 tie. “My highlight of the CBA tie was Josh Marquez’s absolute banger from 25 yards away that went top right bins,” shared John Kugel.

The eight seniors on the team, including Chessere, who had 12 goals to lead the team, and Coach Christopher McGrath provided leadership and guidance for younger players, like Ferrante who contributed four assists. ‘My coach always says ‘Be brilliant at the basics’, which I think is a great quote I like a lot,” said Ferrante.
