After securing low scores and numerous victories last season, the girls and boys golf teams will work towards another successful year.
Last season the girls made school history and ended 6-6, the programs best season in 15 years. “I am looking forward to a successful season, as we qualified for sectionals for the first time in school history last season,” said junior Tyle Lovetere.
The boys had their best season since 2017 and beat Edison in the in-season tournament last year, concluding with a record of 11-4. “I am expecting us to have a lot of fun and hopefully carry that through GMCs,” said senior Jake Babst.
The girls have high expectations both individually and as a team. “Individually, I want to become more consistent, lower my scores, and continue to improve my mental game,” said Emma Wong. “As a team, I expect us to push each other, stay supportive and positive, and continue to work hard. I think if we all hold ourselves accountable, we can have a really successful season.”
“I am looking forward to playing good golf after a cold and long winter,” said Lovetere. “I also am looking forward to using our new indoor practice facility and playing on the course.” This year, the team can hold indoor practices using a golf simulator at Golf Republic in Matawan in addition to using The Rose golf course for the second year.

The boys lost three of their top players from last season but have gained more teammates. “There were a lot of us lower classmen, and we really learned a lot from the seniors and coaches and just in general about how to play,” said Cameron Tomasko.
New responsibilities always arise as players leave, and expectations for the returning platers grow. “With a few new girls expected to try out this year, it feels like a fresh start,” said Emma Wong. “It’s going to require everyone to step up individually and take on more responsibility, but I think that challenge will ultimately strengthen us as a team!”

The girls team features three returning seniors entering their final season with the team. “As a senior, I am really looking forward to making the most of my last season,” said Wong. “I am excited to compete and continue growing my game, but I also just want to enjoy every moment.”
