After last year’s dominant season, defined by a 17-3 record, a perfect 6-0 record in the GMC Red Division, and a third consecutive GMC Championship, the girls lacrosse team returns, ready to keep their streak of success alive.
The team prepared throughout the offseason to remain a powerful force in the GMC Red Division. “We held some offseason workouts as a team, and the girls have also been putting in a lot of work individually,” said senior Addison Albrecht, who contributed 23 goals last season. “They’ve been spending time throwing and catching on their own, and you can really see the improvement from last year.”
Following the graduation of six seniors, the team now expects the twelve returning seniors and new underclassmen to step up and lead. “This year’s team is different from last year’s team because we will have new starters for varsity after the graduating seniors, and many new talented younger players who will take their places,” said senior Adrienne Cabrera, who had 51 goals, the second highest on the team. “I am excited to see how we all learn to play together and succeed.”
The girls want to go into the season with strong team chemistry and a positive outlook, which they hope will continue their dominance in their division. “This year’s team is different because we have some new players and a new group dynamic,” said sophomore Summer Brueggemann, who contributed five goals in her first season with the team. “Even though things are a little different, we are still working hard together and building strong chemistry as a team.”

Several players also look to achieve personal growth and goals throughout the season, and play at the top of their game. “Throughout the season, I expect to improve by continuing to work on my skills, learning from my coaches, and gaining more confidence,” said senior Laila Vaughan, who scored 32 goals last season. “As the season goes on, I hope to play smarter, stay consistent, and keep getting better alongside my teammates.”
Junior Reagan Connolly, a top varsity contributor since her freshman year, also looks to continue team success. “My expectations for the team and myself this year are to just do our best to win and try to have fun. As a team, I want to play as a team and work well together and not have anyone work individually,” said Connolly, who has already scored 120 goals in her first two years with the team. “As an individual, I want to help my team any way I can and help with what I can to win.”
The season begins with an away game on March 31 against Red Bank Regional, and the team will play North Brunswick on April 7 for their home opener at Geick Park.
