After finishing 5-14 last season, the boys lacrosse team hopes to improve for the 2026 season. This year’s team features new coaches and the return of experienced underclassmen.

With a new coaching staff, the team gets a fresh new start. “I expect to build a relationship with my new coaches Mr. Lanzafama and Mr. Borriello,” said sophomore Michael DeSantis, a returning varsity player who had 12 goals as a freshman.

New head coach Anthony Lanzafama and assistant coach Andrew Borriello have previously coached many of the players on travel and recreational teams, creating a strong bond with the team. “I think it will make the atmosphere better, and players may be pushed more to make us better,” said sophomore Thomas Smith.

Only having three seniors and facing a difficult division, the team expects intense competition, such as St. Josephs who finished 4-0 in the GMC Red Division last season. “[Our] expectation is to play in the GMC championship because we aren’t younger than the other teams this year,” said junior Benjamin Randazzo, who scored 10 goals last season.

The returning players scored a total of 63 goals last season. “Our underclassmen are extremely talented,” said junior Jack Goldman, who scored 21 of those goals and had 17 assists. “Our junior class is ready to step up in a big way.”

Junior Timothy Dashchenko winds up to pass the ball.

The team improved throughout the season last year, earning all of their wins after the midpoint of the regular season. “We practiced very hard with each other, and everyone is buying in with everything we do,” said junior Timothy Dashchenko, who played in seven varsity games last year.

Returning players with varsity experience will make up most of the team, creating a structure tough for other teams to compete with. “I think we have a really deep team,” said Smith.

On March 31, the team will face Middletown North at 10 A.M in a home game at Geick Park. “I think that, this year, we are going to work harder,” said DeSantis.
