Coming off a successful winter track season, the spring track team appears on the right track for victory. Overall, both the girls and boys teams consist of successful athletes in every event, including distance, sprints, and field events.

Expectations of breaking many school records remain high. “My ultimate goal is to break the school record in all three throwing events: shot put, discus, and javelin,” said thrower Tetiana Kontsohrada.

Sprinter Danielle Boateng, who has already broken school records, plans to break even more. This past winter, she ran a sub-12 100m and now looks to continue improving. “This season I’m planning to stay healthy and have a great final season,” said Boateng. “I’m looking forward to breaking more records individually and with relays.”

The boys team includes numerous seniors ready to win it all for their final season. Standout runner Ronald Ciaccia put in an immense amount of practice the past few months, has set many goals for himself, and will graduate having made a name for himself. “I’m setting the bar high for expectations this season,” said Ciaccia. “My goals are to qualify again for the Meet of Champions, compete at Nike or New Balance Nationals, and run [personal records] of sub 4:10 in the mile and sub 1:50 in the 800

Ciaccia’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of John Afoakwah, Jack O’Brady, and Muhammad Ziyad, made it to the Meet of Champions in the winter season, and all these talented athletes expect to succeed in the upcoming season. “Based off my winter season, I’m very confident I will achieve those goals,” said Ciaccia. “My goal is to have fun, and I can confidently say I’ll be in the position to win a lot, so I’ll try not to get too ahead of myself.”

Paulina Lewczuk runs along the track, focusing to make it to the end of the 1600m.

The throwers worked hard in the weight room throughout the past few months to improve their strength and even went to the field multiple times a week to work on form. Many seniors view this season as a final chance to make history. “I want to use it as a reason to show off everything,” said Kontsohrada. “I’ve been working so hard for the last four years.”

Overall, the track team expects to see immense success continuing the trends throughout the fall and winter seasons. As the third and final track season of the school year, the team carried by many seniors will make the most of the final moments. “It’s sad,” said Afoakwah. “It’s also relieving, knowing that all our hard work is paying off.”
