Boys Basketball team looks to improve on last year’s .500 record. Although the team is young overall, the players have logged a lot of experience playing varsity as underclassmen.
The team lost two veteran leaders and top performers in Adam Scire and Ryan Witte to graduation. “Even though we lost two out our three high scorers, we still have guys on the team who will be able to step and fill those points back in,” said junior shooting guard Krish Patel.
In his second year playing varsity, sophomore point guard Jaylen Jones expects more opportunities to help the team win. “I’m looking to score the ball more and being more aggressive. I’m filling a bigger role,” said Jones. “It’s definitely a lot easier because I already know what I have to prepare for.”
Last season, the team finished 13-13 overall and 5-6 in their division. “The team is looking to improve on by playing better as a team because if we can play as a team, we can definitely make some noise and be one of the top teams in the conference,” said Patel.

Patel and fellow junior Brandon Medel earned spots in the starting lineup two years ago as freshmen. “We have a strong foundation to build on from last season, which will help with our chemistry as a team,” said Medal.
Patel did an outstanding job last season, leading the team in 3-pointers with 52. “I believe that I can improve on getting to the basket and earning more points by scoring more 2 pointers. My goal is to get over 300 points this year,” said Patel. “[I’m] trying to be more of an all-around overall player.”
Last season, Medel missed most of the season after breaking his arm early in the year. “I’m looking to come back stronger and contribute however I can,” said Medel, who had scored 91 points as a freshman the previous year.

After featuring numerous freshmen in recent seasons, the team will now rely primarily on experienced juniors and a few sophomores. “We are looking to have a winning season now that we are upperclassmen heavy,” said senior forward Ehinomen Odion.
While the team features only one senior, the returning contributors have played together a lot. “We have been working hard all summer and are ready for the season,” said Odion.
The team will travel to rival East Brunswick on December 14 at 5:30pm for the season opener and play their first home game December 21 against St. Thomas Aquinas at 5:30pm.
