The Pod OB, the official podcast of OBHS, debuted its first episode on Spotify in September, and the club has now released a total of four episodes. The podcast educates and entertains the school with discussions on a variety of topics.
Students create every aspect of each episode. “As president of the Pod OB, I am responsible for broadly, overseeing production on the pod, making sure we meet deadlines,” said Adrianna Hui.
The team needs to address many different responsibilities, and everyone has a role to fill. “As the Vice President, my main job is to oversee the anchors and production of episodes,” said Abby Mahmoud.

The concept of an episode determines how long it will take. “A given episode can take anywhere from a week or a month to complete, depending on the episode concept and the amount of guests,” Hui shared.
Production of The Pod goes through many stages and takes a lot of work. “Before they start recording, the team starts by writing questions and an episode outline, finding suitable guests, and giving preliminary interviews,” added Hui.

Each podcast starts with a topic or theme. “We come up with an idea for an episode, either highlighting impressive activities or achievements from students or faculty in OBHS or shining the spotlight on a national holiday or month,” said Scarlet O’Brien.
Then, the team conducts background research. “Before we start recording an episode, our team starts by writing questions and an episode outline, finding suitable guests, and giving preliminary interviews,” shared Hui.
“From the episode’s topic, we find students, teachers or other staff members that are highly knowledgeable on the episode topic and invite them to join us,” explained O’Brien. They have covered the new Jewish Student Union club, Hispanic Heritage Month, teachers’ hobbies and the history of Thanksgiving.
At this point, the team and the guests record the content. “We schedule a time for our anchors and our guests to meet; these might be before the school day or afterschool, depending on how long we expect recording to take,” said Hui.
Jewish Student Union President Lila Feldman appeared on the podcast to discuss Jewish heritage and the new JSU club. “Everyone was so nice” shared Feldman. “We talked about how we wanted the episode to go, and laughed a lot when it came to bloopers.”
“Finally, the raw recordings are sent to our editors to be trimmed for time and polished for better audio quality,” said Hui. The Pod OB can be found at The Pod OB on Spotify, where listeners can access both new and archived episodes. Keep an eye out for a new episode about Girls for Algorithmic Justice expected to drop on January 15.
