The German Honor Society hosted Winterfest on December 13. The event had a great turnout of about 80 people. They included activities like making graham cracker structures and a contest for holding a jug of water. In addition, GHS catered food from the popular German restaurant Killmeyer’s.

The GHS highlighted their excellence when hosting the event. “I was happy with the event because there was great attendance, and the whole event ran smoothly,” said GHS member Jash Prajapati. “The event also brought our honor society together, which I loved!”

Killmeyer’s catered foods like bratwurst and potato pancakes. Bratwurst, a famous type of German sausage, usually uses animal skin as a natural casing. Potato pancakes, also known as Kartoffelpuffer, make a great pairing with Bratwurst. “The whole event was fun, and my favorite part was the food, especially the potato pancakes,” said Harlow Matara.

The German Honor Society also included an interesting dish named Spaghetti-eis, a dessert made from ice cream that uses various toppings to look like spaghetti. “My personal favorite part of the event was the behind the scenes making of the Spaghetti-eis, because it was so fun to make!” noted Co-President Kristen Mazur.

Members handed out graham crackers, candy, and frosting, telling students to create whatever they could. This gave our OBHS students a chance to innovate and shine. “I really enjoyed that they gave us such loose instructions because it gave me a chance to do something creative with it,” stated Matara, the winner of the competition

The water holding competition proved successful. Participants held water jugs, showcasing their endurance by holding them with a straight arm using only one hand. “My favorite part of Winterfest was watching the water holding competition because it was so entertaining. I especially loved watching Anson Pollock and Aiden Kipper try to beat each other in the finals of one round,” said Patrick Chuah.

Winterfest brought a lot of festivity to OBHS, and the German Honor Society hosted another amazing event. Be sure to look out for other GHS events!
