On April 19, Old Bridge High School’s Red Cross Club organized a highly successful blood drive event in collaboration with the American Red Cross Association. The all-day event, held in the school gymnasium, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage members of the school community to participate in this life-saving act.
In total, the Red Cross Club received 66 units of blood. “The blood drive was organized in partnership with the American Red Cross, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting blood donation and supporting healthcare initiatives in our community,” explained Natalie Soliman, co-president of the Red Cross Club.

A lot of planning went into organizing the blood drive, with the club working closely with the Red Cross to ensure a smooth and safe event. “We had to coordinate with the Red Cross for an information presentation to provide to the OBHS chapter,” said Soliman. “To ensure the safety of our school and students, we had the support of the school administration and security team.”

Despite some initial nervousness, students like Evan Fontana enjoyed the experience and found it positive and rewarding. “It was actually my first time donating blood, and, honestly, I was super nervous before the actual procedure,” said Fontana. “But when I met the Red Cross staff, they were so nice and made me feel so much more comfortable.”
“The blood drive was a success with so many students taking the time from their days to help save lives,” said Sharan Minhas, one of the participating students. “It doesn’t take long and is a simple painless procedure.” After a brief survey, donors that met requirements such as height and weight then proceeded to donate.

The units collected from generous students and faculty donors can help almost 200 people. “We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of our donors,” said Soliman. “Their selfless act will directly impact saving lives and supporting healthcare services in our community.”
The success of the blood drive stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Red Cross Club members and the support of the Old Bridge High School community. The inspiring dedication of the club’s initiatives blossomed into a purposeful event.
