On November 12, the National Chinese Honor Society held their annual “Dumpling Day” event. Approximately 70 students attended this event in the main cafeteria after school and participated in various activities, including experimenting with making their own dumplings.

The advisors and board members of the National Chinese Honor Society clearly put lot of work put into planning the decorations and activities planned for this event. “I led the board meetings where we went over the specifics of the event, such as costs, materials, and advertising,” said Club President Karolina Janczuk.

The elimination of late buses made it difficult for students to attend the event. Regardless, the club carefully planned to maximize attendance. “We also had to make sure we were publicizing the event enough to have a good turn out even though we don’t have late buses,” shared Vice President Echo Prado Roberts.

Audrey Kim and Lily Kelly scoop some fillings into their dumplings and pinch them closed.

The club found a solution regarding the cutting of late busing that ensured a large student turnout. “Everyone who attended also had to fill out a quick form where they acknowledged that they needed to have a ride home by the end of the event,” disclosed Janczuk.

The event featured many activities, such as a dumpling making station and dumpling tasting. “I enjoyed making my own dumplings, as well as taste-testing the homemade ones that some students brought in,” commented senior Maya Yong Yow.

Students made their own dumplings and tried different recipes. “I love the homemade dumpling competition,” shared vice president Adrianna Hui. “It was really fun to see everyone’s different recipes, and one of my friends ended up winning.”

The event created an opportunity for students to come together and appreciate Chinese culture through food. “I went to dumpling day to not only spend time with friends, but to also embrace my culture by enjoying one of my favorite foods,” revealed Yow.
