The German Honor Society hosted their annual Winterfest on December 19. The event featured plenty of fun activities and entertainment, including engaging competitions, festive music, catered traditional German food and more.

Throughout the event, the GHS insured a fun time by working hard to keep activities organized. “I wanted to attend to help make the event run smooth and help with running stands to hand out food,” stated junior Manvir Singh.

The event provided a variety of traditional German foods, including pretzels, potato pancakes, and Spaghettieis, a traditional German dessert. “I really enjoyed tasting all of the different foods,” said sophomore Isabela Monaco. “I really enjoyed the German potato pancakes.”

The abundance of contests offered, such as the gingerbread competition, gummy bear count, and more, guaranteed an entertaining night for attendees. “My favorite part was building gingerbread houses because it was super fun,” junior Caitlin Holdampf stated.

Many attendees enjoyed the stein-holding game, a popular German strength contest where contestants hold a jug of water one-handed for as long as possible. “The one where you hold a glass filled with water with your arm extended out and you see who can hold it the longest!” shared junior Rianna Sawhney. “It was fun seeing my friends compete against each other and rooting for who I thought would win.”

Both attendees and organizers enjoyed spending time together while taking part in German traditions. “I think it was a great success,” said Vice President Jasmine Zammar. “Everyone loved the food and had a lot of fun!”

With 76 students attending, the GHS leadership saw the event as a major success. “It was fun since I got see how everyone enjoyed the event,” noted GHS secretary Amelia McNulty. “It made me, along with everyone who organized it, feel very happy about the success.”
