On February 19, Old Bridge High School welcomed Character Ambassadors from each elementary school in the district to an event to teach young students about many cultures. Representatives from different cultural clubs arranged stations where elementary students could come in and discover diverse cultures.

The elementary students enjoyed getting together and learning while having fun. “My favorite part of the event was seeing all the kids and seeing how enthusiastic and happy they were when we were all together!” said Anastasia Galagoza.

The children learned about the customs, traditions, and values of other cultures. “We had this event to bring more cultural awareness to the elementary schools,” said Anastasia Galagoza.

Every station had different activities, so the children could really understand what they learned. “Each station’s beautiful cultural decor created a captivating experience that will have a meaningful impact to help shape the children’s perspectives on different cultures,” said Zoe Chin.

“I definitely think the kids appreciated all the souvenirs each stand handed out,” “It’s a cool way to have physical connections to each culture!” said Adriana Hui. Each station had something from the country they represented. For example, the Asian American Club’s station featured red envelopes and gift bags, which represent good luck in Chinese culture.

Some other stations even gave historical teachings “We wanted to give the children a historical lesson on Middle Eastern culture, and one thing that Egyptians used to do back then was use hieroglyphics as their writing system,” said Sarah Ahmed.

Jayen Junaid concluded the event with a speech about how enhancing the understanding of different cultures helps people see the world through different lenses. “The closing speech was really inspirational to me, even as the one who’s supposed to be inspiring the younger generation, I still was amazed,” said Stephen Davies.
