Freshman Jessica Lane has impressed many for standing as one of the top basketball players on the varsity team and setting a record of 165 saves as a varsity soccer goalie, immediately excelling in both sports.
Starting as a freshman overwhelms young athletes, but Lane embraced the challenge, quickly adapting to the competition after joining the team with older and more experienced athletes. “[Playing varsity as a freshman] was a pretty cool feeling, and I really enjoyed being out there playing with the team,” shared Lane.

Competing at the varsity level meant facing tougher and more mature opponents. “Some girls were just bigger, stronger, and more experienced, but I did what I could with what I knew and always tried to give my all,” explained Lane.

With an outstanding debut season, Lane has set high goals for the future. She hopes to see her teams succeed while continuing to develop as an athlete. “Next year, for both teams, I would love to win our divisions,” stated Lane.
Along with her efforts in basketball, Lane made history on the soccer field, setting a new school record of 165 saves as a varsity goalie, proving her defensive skills. “Having achieved a stat like that made me appreciate all of the hard work and training I put in year-round,” said Lane.
Controlling high-pressure moments represents part of being a varsity athlete, and Lane has embraced that responsibility. Her ability to stay calm under pressure has stayed key to her success in both sports.” I don’t hesitate to fully commit on a play and give my best effort,” stated Lane.

Lane’s teammates recognize her leadership and determination, regardless of starting as a freshman. She has quickly become a significant part of the team’s success. “She stepped up as a freshman and took on a huge role that really led us to succeed,” said senior Morgan Nelson.
Lane’s composure on the field and court allows her to play beyond her years. “She’s not afraid to take control and be a voice on the field,” added Nelson.
Looking towards the future, Lane remains focused on improving her skills and helping her teams reach new milestones. She hopes to lead her teams to division championships and continue to advance as a player. “I want to keep improving in both sports, I put in a lot of practice and training throughout the year” expressed Lane.
