The annual Mock Shaadi event, hosted by the Asian American Club, took place on February 23. Over 200 people attended the event which offered a chance for students to experience cultural music, dance performances, food, and more.

Many preparations took place in advance to ensure the event ran smoothly. “We had to find a DJ and photobooth, cater food, and buy decorations, all within our budget for the planning phase,” said AAC President Soham Agrawal. “Then, the day of the event, we had people help us set up the decorations, the tables, and the food in the cafeteria. Our decorating committee also had to make three backdrops for the event.”

Shrish Mudumby hoists Suhas Gorle into the air on the dance floor, while music blasts in the background.

At the event, several groups performed, including several club members. “I helped assist with the event. I was helping selling tickets, took pictures, and performed for two separate performances at the event,” said Aashi Raval. “I did the K-pop Performance and a Bollywood duo with my friend.”

Along with performances, the event included an open dance floor with a DJ. “My favorite part of the event was probably the open dance floor,” said Maryam Hasan. “It was so much fun to dance with my friends to good music.”

AAC Co-Presidents Sravya Sankisa and Soham Agrawal give a speech to the attendees at Mock Shaadi.

While dancing covered a huge portion of the event, cultural food offered by Royal Curry and BBQ and Karahi House pleased attendees. “It was a great evening! Everyone was having a good time,” said Raval. “There was so much energy, the food was great, the music was good, and it was just a fun entertaining night.”

Overall, the event marked another successful annual celebration, and students can look forward to the diverse and multicultural activities and fun the event along with Asian American Club provides.
