The Italian Honors Society hosted an after-school meeting on April 9 to celebrate Pasqua, better known as Easter.  Around 20 attendees and society members came to learn about Pasqua, enjoy snacks, and participate in many activities.

IHS kickstarted the event with an informative presentation teaching attendees the importance of Pasqua as Italy’s most significant holiday. “One detail that made the event an even better experience was the well involved students when we were presenting,” stated HIS Treasurer, Dominick Kallert.

Students also shared their own family traditions and personal ways of celebrating Easter.  “I was interested in learning the different Easter traditions Italy has, as well as wanting to do activities with my friends,” shared junior Japji Singh.

Entertaining activities, such as coloring Easter eggs and “La Scosa” made the event even more fun. “It’s so cool to teach everyone games from our culture,” explained IHS co-president Francesca Panetta. “For example, La Scosa is a game we play with everyone. We all sit in a circle and overlap our wrists. We tap in order of the circle, but if someone double taps it’s reversed. If you mess up, you’re out. It gets really intense, and everyone enjoys to play and watch.”

Students and society members alike brought in drinks and snacks like chocolate eggs, cheddar ruffles, Goldfish, and more to share and munch on together.  “Biscotti is my favorite!” said Panetta.

IHS successfully taught students about the Pasqua holiday whilst bringing them together and keeping the fun going with engaging games and activities, leaving many excited for next year’s Pasqua. “When Pasqua is hosted again next year, it would be a nice addition if the cakes that each of the regions have were included,” said Kallert.
