The Community Care Club hosted Harvest for Care, their first event of the year, on November 19.  Around 75 attendees and club members fundraised for the Old Bridge Food Bank, listened to the guest speaker, played games, and more.

Together students raised over $350 and donated nonperishables like canned and boxed foods for the food bank.  “I really connect with the Old Bridge community,” shared sophomore Liam Chung.  “When I heard that finding was going toward the Old Bridge Food Bank because SNAP benefits were cut, I knew I had to go.”

The event started with a few words from guest speaker Kristin Agunbiade, the Director of Old Bridge Food Bank. “[Agunbiade] explained the importance of the food bank and what we could do to help,” said Aditi Singh, President of the club. “I think it was important to have her come because it makes people more aware about the fact that some people are not as fortunate as others.”

Attendees kept themselves busy by making cards for Veterans Day, playing games, and participating in the raffle by donating to the food bank. “[My favorite activity was] probably Red Light, Green Light,” said Event Coordinator Ibithagi Aminu. “I feel like we united as a whole while we played that game.”

Students chowed down on the variety of foods available, such as bagels, pizza, and brownies. “[My favorite was] the pastries from Paris Baguette!” said sophomore Christopher Nebab. “There were a lot of croissants.”

The Community Care board’s hard work successfully paid off, with the majority of the proceeds and donations from Harvest for Care going to benefit those in need.  “I hope many food-insecure families and families in need are helped by the food drive and donations during tough times,” stated Event Coordinator Yasmine Dahou.
