On December 19, the Black Student Union and the People First Club collaborated to hold Game “Night” in the main building cafeteria. This event strove to provide funds for Jamacia and Sudan.
“We wanted to send these funds to Jamaica and Sudan, because they are both countries in need of help that don’t get the same media coverage as others,” said President of People’s First Jayden Junaid. Recently, Jamacia had a devasting hurricane, and Sudan is navigating a Civil War right now.

Students contributed by paying five-dollars to attend and an additional fee for pizza and drinks. “With what went on in Jamaica, and with what’s currently going on in Sudan, it felt like it was only right we do something to help,” said Joshua Kelly, Secretary of the Black Student Union.

The simple $5 fee and some food fees went a long way. “We raised around 300 dollars!” stated Jayden Junaid.
Family history influenced this event as well and made it more special to raise money for Jamacia. “We’re raising money for Jamaica, and that’s the country my grandparents migrated from,” said Kelly.
While some students attended because of a desire to help, others attended just for the experience. “What inspired me was that I wanted to be involved and go to an event where I would have fun,” said Alexa Colon.
In addition to the food, Game “Night” featured many interactive activities. “I enjoyed the variety of games that were set up at the side tables, but I especially liked the group activities such as musical chairs, four corners, and the electric current game,” stated Barbae Shonia, a member of the People First Board

The games and the prizes became the spotlight of the event, including a money prize during musical chairs. “What made the event fun for me was all the different games we played, like musical chairs and that they had different prizes for us to win,” said Aisosa Bello-Osagie.
Besides the organized games, some people casually played Uno, Jenga, and balloon volleyball. “The laughter, the music, and the joy that filled the cafeteria added to the energy of the event and made it truly memorable,” said Shonia.
The goal of raising money and giving students a fun experience flourished. “I hope to show people we can have fun and do good, even if it’s not someplace local,” said Kelly.
Kelly’s goal prevailed, making this year’s game night a success. “The thing that made the event fun was being with all my friends and being able to play a bunch of fun games,” said Brianna Com.
