On February 27, Community Care hosted it’s Mind Over Matter event, centered on learning about mental health and taking care of oneself. The event allowed students a space to learn more about mental health while also having fun with multiple activities hosted by the Community Care board.
Community Care hosted the mental health organization 2nd Floor, who provided a guest speaker who informed students of the organization’s hotline which provides 24/7 communication with a counselor. “It’s important for teens to be aware that they have access to this resource since they’re here to support us,” said Event Coordinator Yasmine Dahou.

2nd Floor introduced the Old Bridge teenage community with available teen mental health resources along with teaching attendees about dealing with these issues. “Mind Over Matter … hopes to create awareness and education on teen mental health issues within Old Bridge in hopes to prepare students for a world outside of Old Bridge,” said Outreach Director Raphael Capangpangan.

With this event, students had a space where they let their guard down with friends by drawing, doing yoga, and talking with the 2nd Floor speaker at his booth. “We really just wanted everyone to have fun and relax at the event,” explained Co-Secretary Eva Bhatt.
This event offered various games, like Birdie on a Perch, Rock-Paper-Scissors, and Wig Snatcher, that let attendees have fun with each other. “I loved the wig snatching game,” added Bhatt. “Everybody had so much fun.”

A high-stakes game of Rock-Paper-Scissors had attendees battling each other for who got to eat first, with foods available like rolls, bagels, pizza and more as the prize. “The Texas Roadhouse rolls were a nice treat!” said sophomore Sienna Wong.
With over 45 people in attendance, Mind Over Matter not only raised over $100 for their donation to 2nd Floor but also hosted a memorable event for their attendees. “I hope that people have fun and are inspired to help each other and improve the community,” said Vice President Rachel Nagy.
