On March 12, the Muslim Student Association held an Iftar event after school to celebrate the students participating in Ramadan. This year, MSA collaborated with Sayreville High School’s MSA to showcase solidarity.

The Iftar brought people together during the holy month of Ramadan, letting students break their fast surrounded by friends. “I would describe [The Iftar] as unity because it brought everyone together,” said senior Taha Khan.

This year’s Association partnered with the MSA at Sayreville High School, resulting in the memorable night both schools enjoyed together. “We’ve done a collab iftar with them in the past and really enjoyed it,” said Zainab Khan. “We wanted to continue the tradition.”

Students gather for group prayer and join as the Imam leads.

Colorful decorations and friendly greetings welcomed students as they prepared to take their seats. “My favorite part was getting to see friends and past alumni,” said Sarah Ahmed, a member of MSA. As the sun set, the room filled with anticipation and gratitude as students prepared to break their fast together.

After group prayer, everyone gathered to break their fasts. Many MSA members served others food before they ate themselves. “We had food catered from Calcutta wok. It’s an Indo-Chinese food spot.” added Siddique.

This year’s Iftar offered many activities, such as the photo booth, henna stand, games, prayer, and more. “My favorite part of Iftar was after the food was served because everyone was able to talk to each other, take photos, and do activities like henna or spike ball,” said the President of MSA, Rohan Siddique.

The Iftar event let students remember the central focus of fasting and brought them together to celebrate. “The main purpose of the OB x SV Iftar was to bring people together and build a sense of community, especially in Ramadan when relationships matter most.” said Zainab Khan. “It reflected the values of Ramadan and what it means to be Muslim, beyond just eating food and celebrating.”
