On June 6, the Knights defeated Bridgewater-Raritan in the NJSIAA Group 4 Finals, making them the first team in New Jersey to ever go undefeated with a record of 32-0.

The Knights won the championship in two sets proving why they deserved recognition as the number one team in the state. The students showed up for the game and proved why people recognize them as the best student section in the state. “The student section was loud the whole game, which we could feed off of,” said junior Troy Markle.

On June 3, the Knights took down Southern, the defending State Champions, in a nail-biter semi-final match. They played Southern already this year and they beat them 2-1 in a narrow victory.  Old Bridge won the first set 25-17, but Southern won the second set 25-16. The Knights took the third and final set 26-24. “We remained calm throughout the game, focusing on one point at a time,” said senior Massimo Roco. “We trusted each other’s capabilities and got the job done.”

Junior Adrian Marke, who had 168 kills this season, spikes the at the blockers on the opposing team.

The student section played a pivotal role in the game from the start through their high energy and enthusiasm. “It was arguably the biggest factor in the game. Us being able to feed off them allowed us to pull through. We have the best student section in the state, and they came through against Southern,” said Markle.

In the back-and-forth game, the players kept their composure and never gave up on tough plays. “Mental toughness in games like this is one of the most important aspects of the game,” said Roco.

The team had an amazing performance in GMC’s by winning all their games in the first two sets and not letting up. “That environment was a great experience for everyone to get used to. With the stakes that game held, it has been able to prepare us for states,” said Markle.
