On November 12, the National Chinese Honor Society hosted Dumpling Day after school in the main cafeteria. The event offered a fun way to experience Chinese culture through food.

Dumpling Day sought to showcase the role of food in Chinese culture and the sense of community it creates. “Food is such an important part of Chinese culture, and, from my experience, there’s something really special about enjoying it together,” said Adrianna Hui, the President of the National Chinese Honor Society. “It’s amazing to see that same togetherness and shared culture at school.”

The serving stations displayed careful organization and had a variety of dumplings for everyone attending. “When I was serving dumplings, I was stationed with a tray of chicken dumplings,” said Evan Chuah. “To the left [was] pork dumplings, and to the right [was] more chicken dumplings.”

Not only did this event offer delisioius food, but it also created connections. “It turns something as simple as sharing food into a moment where the whole room warms up a little,” stated Aasiya Damani. “It’s a small celebration of comfort, culture, and togetherness, rolled into one bite-sized moment.”

Dumpling Day gave students a fun way to dive into Chinese cuisine while enjoying time with their peers. “My favorite parts about Dumpling Day were watching everyone come together and actually getting to try all the different dumplings,” explained Fatima Adnan.

The large turnout and support of the Chinese Honor Society members helped make Dumpling Day a great event that ran seamlessly. “I think the event overall was a huge success,” stated Anya Persaud. “We had a big turn out as expected and it went very smoothly with the help of our Honor Society members.”

CHS continues planning events for the future. “We plan a lot of our events well ahead of time,” said Hui. “We’re already starting with Lunar New Year.
