The Muslim Student Association hosted its annual welcome picnic and prayer after school on September 18, a traditional kickoff organized by the MSA board to mark the start of the year.
This event gave a chance for Muslim and non-Muslim students to have a relaxing evening and take a break by socializing with peers. “It’s important for our MSA club to bridge that gap with the rest of the student body so that people can learn more about Muslims,” said senior Ahil Vistro

After group prayer, students made their way outside to a variety of fun activities, such as sports, games, and bracelet making which entertained all attendees. “I had fun playing basketball, volleyball, and spike ball, but I enjoyed volleyball the most,” said junior Ahmed Qureshi.

The board chose to plan a subdued gathering rather than a flashy one due to wanting inclusivity for those who prefer quieter events. “A relaxed atmosphere is very important because it lowers the bar for showing up. It lets people ease in even if they don’t know anyone yet, which matters when you’re trying to reach people outside your usual attendees,” said Humza Ali, President of MSA.
This year, MSA members served an assortment of food at the picnic. “The chicken pizza with the barbecue sauce on it was my favorite, which was from Jaans Pizza.” said Muhammad Qureshi.
The main goal of the evening focused on creating a welcoming atmosphere for unfamiliar faces. “It was heartwarming to see everyone come together, eating and playing games,” said junior Yasmine Dahou.
