On September 23, the members of Jewish Student Union gathered in faculty advisor Allison Tuckman’s classroom for the Bagels and Board Games event. The event strove to attract new members into joining their club for the year.

Apart from earning new members, the club created a safe environment. We wanted to bring in more members and make a fun, inclusive environment, which we definitely succeeded in,” stated President of Jewish Student Union, Sierra Yong Yow.

The event consisted of various games including Mafia, Seven Up, Imposter, Pattern, and the board game, Sorry. “The most special part of that event would have to be the fact that we played multiple games where everyone was included, rather than the original idea of smaller grouped board games,” said sophomore Gabriel Rayzman.

Additionally, the club had several different types of bagels to offer the members. “Our Vice President Ryan thought of the idea because bagels are associated with our culture, and we wanted to think of a fun activity that goes with it,” said Yong Yow.

“What makes the event important to me is that I came up with the idea, and I feel a great sense of pride that so many people came to an event I thought of,” said Vice President Ryan Orlof.

“We all cooperated to play a series of meeting-wide games like heads up 7 up, imposter, and mafia, although none of us knew how to really play correctly,” stated Rayzman. The component of teamwork helped bond students.

The event helped some students feel more included. “Now, I don’t feel so alone when I think about how kindly the rest of the club members welcomed me into their group,” said JSU member Riley Cameron.

Overall, Jewish Student Union’s first event of the year succeeded and created a warm environment for everyone. “It is so important to me to meet other Jewish people and people who respect Jews, so we can all come together and have fun,” said Yong Yow.
