On April 22, the French Honors Society and Club hosted the La Fête des Crêpes, an event with the purpose of sharing French culture through one of its most popular foods, crêpes. With this event, FHS gave students a chance to relax and build community while sharing a piece of French culture with friends.
Organizers prepared over 100 crêpes in advance and made more at the event itself, ensuring that ample servings for every student alongside chips and drinks. “This event would have not been possible without all of the [FHS] members who helped us sell tickets and brought in supplies,” said French Honors Society President Abby Mahamoud.

Through students simply purchasing tickets, the FHS raised around $430 for the French senior scholarships. “This event is essentially a fundraiser for the French senior scholarships,” explained FHS President Camyrn Burniston. “It is also to foster more appreciation for the French culture.”

By making a simple batter mix, whisking it until smooth, and cooking the batter in a pan to allow a thin pancake-like texture, anyone can make the perfect crêpe. “My favorite part of the event was my custom pick of ingredients to put in my personalized crêpe,” stated senior Neo Mohapeloa.
FHS brought plenty of delicious ingredients for students to add to their crêpes, such as Nutella, whip cream, syrups, and various fruits. “My personal favorite was Nutella and strawberries,” shared FHS Secretary Saemoon Salman. “Of course, you must have whipped cream on your crêpes.”

This event not only allowed students exposure to French culture but also raised money for French senior scholarships, gave French students volunteer hours, and fostered community for attendees. “The way we can share something like a crêpe with each other and have fun makes it feel like a trip to France with my friends,” said senior Haya Awad.
With approximately 80 students in attendance, the FHS succeeded in providing students with an easygoing event that all students could partake in and unwind. “I think in the future [FHS] should have some activities like a Kahoot about France/crêpes or anything that isn’t overbearing,” said Mahamoud. “I think the flexibility of Crêpe Day makes it easier for people to come.”
